Thinking of writing a coming of the age novel.
I’ll make the protagonist a sensitive artistic guy, a loner, misunderstood and unpopular, and intelligent.
I’ll make the heroine a beautiful, unattainable, mysterious, elusive, maddeningly alluring girl (with problems and issues of her own), who initially gets the protagonist out of his shell.
The protagonist falls in love with the heroine for showing him what life he was missing so far.
Ah! Not So fast! The heroine already has a love interest! She is damaged goods…she always chooses the wrong man, even though we, the readers know how perfect the protagonist and the heroine are together.
Now the plot turns picaresque, where the protagonist goes on a hero’s journey, and the heroine makes a long chain of bad decisions that send her life spiralling down.
The protagonist and the heroine’s lives keep intersecting at various important crossroads and junctures.
The protagonist, still in love with the heroine tries to return the favour by being her knight in shining armour, but is readily rebuffed because of the heroine’s high self worth and reluctance to accept someones else’s help.
The heroine’s life continues to spiral downwards, and when all seems lost-lo behold! The Protagonist does something unselfish and magnanimous to rescue the ever-reluctant heroine.
The heroine finally realizes the worth of the protagonist, and accepts his love, and returns back some of her own.
They both kiss, while the screen fades to dark, and happy music plays in the background.
Although the future is uncertain, we the people hope for the best, as evidenced by a very peppy epilogue.
I’ll sell the script to some big movie producer and make a lot of moolah. (that’s the rithmetic part)
